Ballroom Dancing Shoes – Tips for new dancers!
Women’s Ballroom shoes are typically court shoes made of leather or silk. They look very much like ordinary court shoes but have the important suede sole. A variety of colours are available. However, flesh coloured shoes will go with most outfits. Women’s Latin shoes typically have a thin high heel (2 to 3 inches). They are usually strappy open-toed sandals although they now come in a large range of styles and colours.
Buying Tips for Women:
Unlike men who typically go for the Ballroom shoe as a first pair, women typically opt for a Latin shoe. As a beginner, support for the foot is important, so do not go for shoes that are very open around the toes and ankle. As a beginner, some protection for the toes is also recommended depending on your partner! Choose a pair with a lower heel if you are unused to wearing heels normally.
For social dancing there are also shoes available that combine the Latin and Ballroom style to offer a more comfortable fit with more support. For practice and class work these make ideal shoes to wear.

3. Shoe Care
Depending on the cleanliness of the floor you dance on, the suede will get dirty and clogged. To help maintain the sole of the shoe, a stiff wire shoe brush will be required to gently scrub the sole of the shoe and maintain the texture of the suede. Keep the suede dry and clean and avoid sticky and dusty floors.
